Because my life is a non-stop whirl of international travel and adventure, I missed a trip to Architectural Digest Design in NYC to see new products from Jenn-Air. Understanding my jam-packed calendar made it impossible for me to pop down, the Jenn-Air marketing folks were kind enough to send me a post-show cheat sheet.
BTW, if you too missed the ADDS, you might like to see what Hamish Bowles picked out as notable for Vogue.
The big Jenn-Air reveal was the new RISE line, which includes column and built-in refrigerators, pro-level slide-in ranges with cooktop and oven, rangetops, wall ovens, and dishwashers. Compact, 24-inch products will come to market in 2019 to address the needs of the urban/condo demographic.
Clean, crisp lines are the norm across the offering. Brass handles with a diamond-etched texture are well-proportioned, feel good in the hand, and give good grip.
The interior of the column fridges are “Obsidian”, a finish I saw in the fall. Are you, as I initially was, worried that a slate grey interior, inspired by volcanic glass, wouldn’t provide sufficient visibility? Don’t be — 650 LED lights that gradually turn on as the door is opened.
There are three temperature/humidity zones for efficient food preservation, and a soft-touch close system. Technology is a key feature; by later this year, appliances will be able to be controlled remotely, connect to service centres, and access recipes. Four refrigerator and freezer sizes each ensure that the line is easily customizable. For cooking, there are more than 30 configurations — from grills, griddles, and brass burners (see the feature image above for an idea of the many, many options).
Another new line, NOIR, is expected to debut next year. Stay tuned.
