When I asked Mayor Chow about the fact that her draft #torontobudget will, according to the City's own budget notes, leave at least 250* people without shelter each and every night both this year and next, she insisted she found it unacceptable.

Yet she has done nothing to counter that fact or reduce the numbers.

Ergo, she has accepted it.

I do NOT accept a budget which leaves people (including kids) sleeping outside in blazing heat, driving rain, and in -14C cold.

Do you accept it? Can you accept it? Can you live with this truth?

If you can"t please call or write both @mayoroliviachow and your Councillor to demand that we bring our most vulnerable neighbours inside at night.

*250 is a conservative number. It represents the number of "umnatched callers" to the 311 central intake line for shelter.

It does not count the number of people who gave up on calling for shelter spaces.

Why do unhoused folks give up? Because they know better than anyone that there simply isn't enough shelter.

How bad is it? In November I was working with a young woman with a ten year old child. They were homeless for a MONTH before they got shelter. The last five nights they spent in a stairwell at York University. They moved to the stairwell after have been physically threatened in the storage room they had crept into to stay warm. I repeat - Toronto the Good left a ten year old child to sleep in a stairwell.

Let me also ask again - is this acceptable to you? Is this the Toronto you want? Can you live with this? If not, SAY SO!

For now, marvel at this quietly arresting example of modern Finnish large-scale wood architecture from Anttinen Oiva Architects.

Part of a revamp of the old port of Helsinki, it's very demure, very Nordic.

The pictures I looked at made me think of obscure, arty movies made in the 70s, preferably with Glenda Jackson wearing a leather trench.

When you think of it, there was more than a touch of Nordic structure to the magnificent GJ, who I once say play Hedda Gabler btw. Brilliant brilliant actor.

This handmade card by @holly_hutchison_art is so lovely I might just have to send it to myself. But then, wouldn't I also have to gift myself the cute socks, given I bought them with the intention of gifting?

The only logical answer is yes, naturally.

The card is a mini alcohol print that slides out of its card for framing. Inside it's blank so you can add your own message.

If you are out there now thinking damn, I wish I was going to be the one to get those darling but inexpensive Sheer Fruits socks from Minden's prettiest store, don't worry - I got two more pairs of socks and another card to serve in just such a case.
