From Chicago comes welcome news that Stone Textile Studio has released new wallpaper and textile designs to mark their ten-year anniversary. Founder and interior designer Elizabeth Mollen is known for her self-declared “wildly unapologetic patterned interiors with a maximalist vibe”, inspired by fashion, travel, architecture, and art. Still, her spaces are family- and pet-friendly, using performance fabrics and materials that can handle either.
I find the new designs exceptionally beautiful and interesting, and the new textiles too wonderful not to share. So bold, but somehow so balanced and grounding. Check out how deftly, for example, the Circle pattern (below middle) comes to life in the room scene jut beneath it. And the palettes – oh my!
Tracks, shown above left, comes in this lovely olive/pink mix but also greyscale and jewel tones. Houndstooth comes in black and white, denim, neutral, and pop of pink (above right).
In the collection, says Mullen, she explored printing on textured and metallic backdrops and performance fabrics to create new textiles. They incorporate some punchy combinations – textile design with pastels with jewel tones, pistachio green and pink stripes, and captivating black, white, and greyscale combos. Because she loves playing with scale, Mollen says it was important to incorporate both larger and smaller prints.
LOL. I DARE you to pick a fave. Not possible, right?

Mollen’s collections can be seen in situ and as large samples at her new collab in The Vault Creative (1894 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, IL), which incorporates furniture, art, gifts, new textiles, and home décor items from Stone Textile Studio, Ozum Home, Laughlin Gallery, and Workshoppe Chicago. Mollen is also collaborating with boutique rug purveyor Fayette Studio for a trade-only line.
Three things about Elizabeth Mollen, who:
inherited her love of design and art from her grandmother, who was an artist and antique dealer.
earned her degree in textile and apparel design and studied art history in Italy before working in New York and Los Angeles with various fashion designers
launched Stone Textile Studio in 2014, bringing her uncanny eye to mixing textures, discovering new materials, and designing new textiles and original fabrics for the home.
