If you love coffee, you'll know that its cost is c If you love coffee, you'll know that its cost is climbing steadily. The current market price for Arabica beans is about $2.70 US a pound, close to double what it was last year. One way to deal with the effects of this jump is to make coffee at home, where you can make a terrific cup, hot or iced, and fix it just the way you like it. Without much fuss and minus the boutique cafe $$$. Start with an affordable maker that can multi-task. For that, I like the new Flex Brew 5-in-1 from Hamilton Beach (Slide 3). Why? Because it has a space-saving 7-inch profile that hides a 12-cup carafe and a basket that swings out when needed. You can also make a single hot or iced coffee from the front of the machine. Single serve cups can be used with your favourite branded pod, or with a reusable filter for regular or decaf. It has a keep warm function and an automatic shut off. Easy to use and clean. Part of a revamp of the old port of Helsinki, it's very demure, very Nordic. The pictures I looked at made me think of obscure, arty movies made in the 70s, preferably with Glenda Jackson wearing a leather trench. When you think of it, there was more than a touch of Nordic structure to the magnificent GJ, who I once say play Hedda Gabler btw. Brilliant brilliant actor. As I say, more soon on Around the House.
