You’ve heard of design products that look beautiful and perform well be described as a perfect union of form and function? Think of Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day plant-derived cleaning products as a happy marriage of function and fragrance.
The prime ingredient of this line of laundry detergents, dryer sheets, dish/hand soaps, and all-purpose cleaners, is essential oils from basil, lavender, lemon verbena, and honeysuckle.
Thelma Meyers, the real-life inspiration behind the brand, envisioned household cleaners that work like the dickens but smell nice. The brief was to make them pretty (in both scent and product design) and powerful.
“It wouldn’t make much sense to put my name on something that didn’t work hard and smell nice,” the mid-western homemaker and mom of nine is quoted as saying.
Pam Helms, Mrs. Meyers’ vice-president of R&D/scent expert, worked hard to bring that vision of an aromatherapeutic, environmentally-friendly, effective and well-designed offering to the household cleaning market.
Mrs. Meyer’s products contain no chlorine bleach, petroleum, distillates, parabens, phosphates or phthalates. Wherever possible, they use materials from renewable plant resources like coconut, palm or olive.
It all brings to mind another time-tested phrase: pretty is as pretty does.
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products are available at major retailers, including Sobey’s, Metro, London Drugs, and Canadian Tire.
