Custom candles are an accessible, affordable luxury

I recently chatted with Louise Abela, retail manager for KANDL, whose parent company has created candles for the likes of Jonathan Adler and Estee Lauder. It’s a compelling success story-the family-run business has been thriving for a half century now. Designer brands like Michael Aram and Lalique candles are available for sale at KANDL and they are an exclusive Toronto store for Europerfumes, whose offering includes pieces with art by modern masters like Basquiat and Keith Haring. Now, an in-house KANDL Collection anchors the offering. These are made in Mississauga, with soy wax hand-poured into glass blown in Poland-each one slightly different. Among a variety of singular fragrances is Basil/Lime and Suede and Oud, which marries the musky scent of oud (from the Southeast Asian agar tree) with the woody sweetness of patchouli. Lovely as a gift-for you or a friend!
